MACALLA 1916 - in CORK CITY HALL

MACALLA 1916 in Cork City Hall - MACALLA 1916 is a Suite of music composed by Michael Rooney for The Comhaltas National Folk Orchestra of Ireland which was formed by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in the late 1980s and has always attracted the most gifted young Irish musicians and singers. MACALLA 1916, while reflecting on Easter 1916, will also place it in the context of the history leading up to the Rising and how Ireland has developed since – including the Celtic revival at the turn of the Century - the formation of the Gaelic League, the GAA and other Cultural Institutions - the turbulence surrounding 1916 in Ireland and Europe – the rebellion and the road to independence - the Northern Traditions and the dawn of reconciliation.
